Karachi Police Enhance Security Measures for Muharram

By Aziz Khatri

KARACHI: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) East Zone Karachi, Usman Ghani Siddiqui, chaired a high-level meeting at the DIG East office on Tuesday to review and finalize security arrangements for the upcoming Muharram-ul-Haram commemorations.

The meeting brought together senior police officers from the Eastern Zone, officials from the Pakistan Rangers, representatives of the local administration, Shia scholars, procession organizers, and members of scout groups.

During the meeting, Shia clerics and organizers of religious processions raised specific security concerns. In response, DIG Siddiqui instructed police officials to prioritize these issues to ensure a smooth and secure environment during the religious events. He emphasized the importance of maintaining continuous, 24-hour communication with procession organizers and permit holders of Majalis (religious gatherings). DIG Siddiqui also ordered officers to conduct in-person visits to the sites to address any challenges as they arise.

Additionally, he announced the establishment of a 24/7 monitoring room at the DIG East office to oversee security arrangements throughout Muharram, allowing for real-time tracking of processions and gatherings. Reaffirming the department's commitment, DIG Siddiqui stated that the East Zone Police, in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies, will ensure the highest level of security during Muharram-ul-Haram.
