Muhammad Nihal Hashmi Hosts 30th Iftar with Children at Governor House

 KARACHI: Governor Sindh Muhammad Nihal Hashmi met with Consul General of Japan Hattori Masaru at the Governor House Karachi, where both sides held detailed discussions on strengthening Pakistan-Japan bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in multiple sectors.

During the meeting, the Japanese Consul General congratulated the governor on assuming office. The two dignitaries discussed avenues to enhance collaboration in education, technology, and investment, with a particular focus on empowering youth through IT courses and technical training programs.

Both sides emphasized the need for joint efforts to equip young people with modern skills and also agreed to work together on initiatives aimed at preventing environmental pollution. Matters related to ongoing projects of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the development of the Karachi Circular Railway were also reviewed.

Governor Nihal Hashmi stated that Pakistan is keen to benefit from Japan’s advanced technology to further enhance the capabilities of its youth. He highlighted vast investment opportunities for Japanese investors in sectors including mining, oil and coal, fisheries, and agriculture, adding that Pakistan’s skilled workforce and the fertile land of Sindh offer strong potential for growth.

He also proposed organizing a Pak-Japan Business Conference at the Governor House to connect Japanese investors, experts, and business leaders with opportunities in Pakistan.

On the occasion, Consul General Hattori Masaru noted that Japan has consistently supported Pakistan in education, health, and food sectors over the years. He mentioned long-term support for Al-Khair School and ongoing grassroots initiatives such as the Green Route Human Security project.

He further shared that over 1,800 Pakistani students are currently studying in Japanese universities, with annual scholarship programs benefiting many more. Likewise, Japanese students are also enrolled in Pakistani institutions, strengthening academic exchange between the two countries.

The Consul General added that Japanese investors have shown interest in Pakistan through platforms like the Pak-Japan Business Forum, while cultural and community events continue to promote mutual understanding. He also highlighted that seafood exports to Japan through joint ventures are contributing to stronger economic ties.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to deepen cooperation and explore new opportunities for sustainable development and mutual growth between Pakistan and Japan.
