Karachi’s Green Initiative Expands with Bohra Community Tree Planting Drive

By Aziz Khatri

KARACHI: On Sunday, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab partnered with members of the Bohra community for a tree plantation drive on Old Queens Road. This event highlights the city's increasing commitment to addressing climate change through grassroots environmental initiatives. It aimed to draw attention to the urban environmental challenges faced by Pakistan’s largest city.

During the event, Mayor Wahab emphasized that the tree plantation campaign is part of a larger citywide effort to combat rising pollution levels and improve public health. “Climate change is one of the biggest challenges of our time, and mass tree plantation is a crucial step in our response,” he stated in the presence of schoolchildren, community elders, and local officials.

While visiting Old Queens, Wahab also inaugurated a newly developed sports area, reflecting the administration's renewed focus on improving Karachi’s neglected public spaces. He noted that this initiative signifies a commitment not only to urban greening but also to fostering inclusive, healthy neighborhoods where people of all ages can engage in recreational activities and community life.
