Karachi: In a significant move towards urban development, Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab unveiled Karachi's first modern Meat Market at Empress Market. The mayor emphasized the need to combat local mafias disrupting business, stating, “We want to do things properly, allowing businesses to thrive while preserving our historical heritage.”
The newly renovated facility features 29 stalls and a clean environment for meat sellers, along with a parking facility accommodating 400 cars and 150 motorcycles to address local congestion. Mayor Wahab announced ongoing beautification efforts for Empress Market, promising restoration of its iconic clock.
Highlighting the achievements since the Pakistan Peoples Party took over the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) two years ago, Wahab noted the focus on resource allocation to improve the city rather than complaining about authority limitations. He stressed that while former mayors lacked resources, the current leadership prioritizes honesty and commitment to public service.
The mayor reaffirmed ongoing projects, including an expressway to ease traffic from Port Qasim, and promised improvements in various markets around Karachi. With upcoming infrastructure developments and restoration projects in the pipeline, Mayor Wahab aims to showcase Karachi's rich heritage and enhance the quality of life for its residents.
