Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi Pays Tribute to Renowned Artist Imran Mir on His 75th Birth Anniversary

Karachi: The Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi's Fine Art Committee hosted a heartfelt commemorative event at Haseena Moin Hall, honoring the legacy of esteemed painter, designer, and sculptor Imran Mir on what would have been his 75th birthday. Among the distinguished guests was Mohammad Ahmed Shah, President of the Arts Council, who joined fellow artists and enthusiasts in celebrating Mir’s impactful life and artistic contributions.

The event featured a documentary film showcasing the remarkable journey and achievements of the late artist, setting a reflective tone as attendees gathered to pay their respects. The proceedings were moderated by Nafeesa Rizvi and saw participation from a large assembly of visual artists and admirers of Imran Mir's work.

Noorjehan Bilgrami, a renowned visual artist, commended the initiative, highlighting the significance of the Arts Council’s Art School, which has been a nurturing ground for numerous artistic legends, including Bashir Mirza. She spoke fondly of Imran’s exceptional talent, stating, “What he created 50 years ago remains distinct today. He was a sincere, creative soul who treated his craft with great respect.” Bilgrami also noted Mir’s innovative use of plant elements in his artwork, merging the essence of flora from around the world to recreate a slice of Sri Lanka’s natural beauty in Karachi.

Architect Shahid Abdullah remembered Imran Mir as "a soft-spoken, humble personality and a true hero," emphasizing the timelessness of his contributions to the art world. He recalled their friendship, stating, “He stood by me at every stage of life, and I can never forget his dedication.”

Art critic Quddus Mirza observed that Imran's works conveyed powerful messages, whether political or social. “His paintings seemed to speak – through silence, they reflected his profound thoughts,” Mirza remarked, praising Imran’s ability to blend heritage and nature in his art.

Designer Kiran Ahmed reflected on the cultural depth in Imran Mir’s creations, noting his masterful command of bold colors and intricate designs. “His work always reflected Pakistani culture, leaving a lasting impression through its strong messages,” she said.

Jibran Mir, son of the late artist, shared insights into his father's curiosity and innovative spirit. “He was always interested in branding, companies, and graphic design. His work gained recognition not just in Pakistan but across the globe,” he noted, highlighting Imran's relentless pursuit of creativity.

As the event concluded, it was clear that Imran Mir's legacy as a pioneer in the arts would continue to inspire future generations, serving as a reminder of the profound impact that one artist can have on the cultural fabric of a community.
