German Consul General Bids Farewell to Karachi with Fond Memories

Karachi: The German Consul General, Dr. Rüdiger Lotz, expressed heartfelt sentiments as he prepares to leave Pakistan, particularly Karachi, after a rewarding three-year tenure. "During my time here, I’ve learned a great deal about this vibrant city. The warmth and affection I have received will always hold a special place in my heart," Dr. Lotz remarked at a farewell dinner hosted by the Economic Diplomacy Forum and Hashimi Group at a local club, where he served as the chief guest.


Prominent businessman Zubair Motiwala, Chairman of BMG, alongside host Dr. Muhammad Farooq Afzal, also addressed the gathering. In honor of Dr. Lotz’s service, a commemorative shield was presented by Dr. Afzal, with a gift pack following from Hashimi Group Chairman Dr. Rashid Hashmi.

The event saw the presence of several distinguished guests, including Consul General of Japan Hattori Masaru, Consul General of China Yang Yundong, Consul General of Türkiye Cemal Sangu, Consul General of Sri Lanka Jagath Kumara, Consul General of Iraq Mehr Mujahid Gijan, Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh Mahboob Alam, and others. Also in attendance were notable figures such as Home Secretary Iqbal Memon and prominent businessmen and diplomats.

In his address, Dr. Lotz highlighted his efforts to enhance bilateral cooperation in trade, education, culture, and social development during his tenure in Karachi. He emphasized the importance of encouraging more investors to explore opportunities in the city, acknowledging the challenges faced but remaining resolute in strengthening the enduring ties between Germany and Pakistan.

Zubair Motiwala pointed out Pakistan’s crucial role in the textile industry, which accounts for 60% of its exports. He highlighted Germany as a vital importer of Pakistani textile goods and acknowledged Bangladesh’s status as another key textile exporter, praising the mutual support between Germany and Pakistan on various principled matters.

Dr. Farooq Afzal welcomed attendees and expressed that Dr. Lotz's departure represents a significant loss for Pakistan. He commended the Consul General for strengthening cultural, educational, and diplomatic ties, expressing hope that Dr. Lotz would return to Pakistan in a more prominent capacity in the future.

As the farewell evening concluded, it was clear that Dr. Lotz’s impact on Karachi and the broader Pakistani German relationship would be felt long after his departure.
