Karachi University Hosts Hostile Environment Awareness Training (H.E.A.T.)

Karachi: In a commendable initiative towards enhancing student safety, Karachi University recently hosted a one-day Hostile Environment Awareness Training (H.E.A.T.) and self-defense session conducted by the Special Security Unit (SSU) Commandos. The event was organized by the Department of Criminology and aimed to equip students with crucial skills to protect themselves and respond effectively in emergency situations.


The training session was coordinated by Professor Dr. Samina Saeed, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, and Professor Dr. Naeema Saeed, Chairperson of the Department of Criminology. Their instrumental roles were pivotal in the event’s success.

During the session, SSU Commandos engaged students in a simulated anti-terrorist operation, providing firsthand experience in handling various emergency scenarios. Participants were actively involved in learning martial arts-based self-defense techniques, which received enthusiastic responses from those in attendance.

The event was graced by DIG Security and Emergency Services Division, Dr. Maqsood Ahmed, who attended as the chief guest. In his address, he underlined the importance of H.E.A.T. training in addressing today's security challenges, stating that such programs are essential not only for law enforcement officials but also for ordinary citizens, particularly students. He emphasized that being prepared can empower individuals to respond confidently and effectively during crises.

Dr. Maqsood Ahmed encouraged the youth to set clear intentions and goals, reminding them that determination and belief in one’s abilities are key to achieving success. Furthermore, he highlighted the relevance of criminology and the criminal justice system, expressing optimism that students will find new job opportunities in this evolving field.

The training session was made successful through the dedicated efforts of the Criminology Department, which worked closely with SSU officers to ensure a rich learning experience.

In a gesture of appreciation, commemorative shields and souvenirs were exchanged between DIG Dr. Maqsood Ahmed and Dean Professor Dr. Samina Saeed, symbolizing a strong commitment to ongoing collaboration in security and training initiatives.
