Karachi: In response to numerous public complaints about increasing thefts from bridges, public buildings, poles, and boundary walls throughout the city, Mayor of Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, has ordered an immediate citywide crackdown on drug addicts occupying roads, sidewalks, and other public areas.
The mayor has directed that drug-addicted individuals found in public spaces be safely transferred to the City Warden's Headquarters and then to rehabilitation centers. Dedicated City Warden teams have been deployed in every district to ensure this process is conducted safely, humanely, and systematically, with a strong emphasis on preventing individuals from returning to these public areas, according to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation spokesman Daniyal Siyal.
This issue has consistently been raised in various high-level meetings chaired by the mayor, particularly regarding the theft and damage to public infrastructure. The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has already offered land for the establishment of large-scale rehabilitation centers as part of a long-term solution. Under the Mayor’s directives, this initiative is being treated as a high-priority project.
The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation is committed to restoring order in public spaces, preserving public assets, and working towards the social reintegration of affected individuals through comprehensive rehabilitation efforts.
