Karachi: The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) is set to launch Smart Digital Parking Services in selected designated and boundary wall-enclosed parking zones throughout the city. This initiative aligns with Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab’s vision to modernize public infrastructure and improve urban mobility.
Following the previous announcement of free parking at 32 locations, KMC has now approved the development of Smart Parking Zones at 10 key sites, which include:
1. Sindbad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal
2. Parking Lot near A.O. Clinic, Nazimabad
3. Clifton Center
4. Sassi Arcade
5. Paradise Center
6. Polo Ground, Dr. Ziauddin Ahmed Road
7. Crystal Court
8. Plot Between Beach View Parking, Clifton
9. Hyper Star, Beach View Parking, Clifton
10. Driving License Branch, Nazimabad
To facilitate this project, the Charged Parking Department has issued tenders and initiated procurement procedures. An Expression of Interest (EOI) has been invited under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, encouraging private sector involvement in Karachi’s urban development.
The Smart Parking system will feature:
- Digital ticketing and cashless payment options
- Real-time parking availability updates
- Enhanced security and monitoring in covered areas
“This initiative will not only address the growing parking demands in Karachi but also represent a shift towards a digital civic infrastructure — a long-term investment in the city’s future,” stated a KMC spokesperson.
The project is currently under review and will be launched in phases following formal procedures.
