Renowned Singer Jamal Akbar Honored with 10th Icon Award for 50 Years of Musical Excellence

Karachi: Internationally acclaimed singer Jamal Akbar, currently residing in the United Kingdom, was honored with the prestigious 10th Icon Award in Karachi, recognizing his remarkable 50-year contribution to the world of music. The award ceremony was organized by Icon Awards CEO Uzma Sabir and Rehmatullah Memon.


The event was graced by Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Sindh, Saleem Baloch, who attended as the chief guest. The gathering also featured notable personalities including singer Fakhir, film star Ali Khan, actress Mumtaz, Afshan Qureshi, GM PTV Amjad Shah, Munawwar Saeed, among others.

In his address, Saleem Baloch commended Jamal Akbar, stating, “Jamal Akbar is a national asset who has brought honor to Pakistan on a global scale. Sustaining such a long career in singing is a mark of a truly great artist. His melodious voice continues to captivate listeners to this day. Recognizing our heroes through awards is a commendable initiative. I congratulate the organizers of Icon Awards for arranging such a beautiful event.”

Jamal Akbar, expressing his gratitude, reflected on his journey, saying, “Whatever I am today is because of Ustad Mehdi Hassan. I have the honor of being his first student. I sincerely thank the organizers of Icon Awards for bestowing this honor upon me. Pakistani music is loved all over the world. I have performed in every corner of the globe and received immense appreciation.” He also recounted a significant moment in his life: “On the day Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was hanged, I recited a poem, due to which I was banned by PTV and Radio Pakistan and forced into exile. After the return of democracy, I began revisiting Pakistan and continue to perform for music lovers here.”

Uzma Sabir remarked, “Through Icon Awards, we acknowledge the services of individuals who have made significant contributions to the country in various fields. Jamal Akbar is a prominent name in the world of music, and we hope the government will officially recognize his invaluable services.”

The evening not only celebrated Jamal Akbar's achievements but also underscored the importance of honoring artistic contributions that enrich the cultural tapestry of Pakistan.
