Karachi Press Club Celebrates Independence Day with Mayor Murtaza Wahab

Karachi, Aug 14: In a spirited celebration of Independence Day, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab visited the Karachi Press Club, where he hoisted the national flag and cut the Independence Day cake in the presence of esteemed journalists and media professionals.


During his visit, Mayor Wahab engaged in comprehensive discussions about the city's development projects. He announced the upcoming inauguration dates for key initiatives, including the Karimabad Underpass, which will open on September 30, the Korangi Causeway Bridge, which will open on November 15, and the extension of Shahrah-e-Bhutto to Kathore, which will open on December 31. Additionally, he highlighted the Gutter Baghicha Water Treatment Plant, which aims to ensure a stable water supply for Karachi’s industries, emphasizing that a strong industrial sector is crucial for the city’s economic stability.

Notable figures in attendance included Member of the National Assembly Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, Press Club President Fazil Jamili, General Secretary Sohail Afzal, Joint Secretary Mudasir Ahmed, and senior journalists such as Tahir Aziz, Shahid Mustafa, and national cricketer Sarfaraz Ahmed, among others.

In his address, Mayor Wahab reiterated the city's commitment to ongoing projects, including the New Hub Canal, Shahrah-e-Bhutto, and TP-1. “We are committed to work and have a clear vision,” he stated.
The Mayor underscored the indispensable role of the media in bolstering democracy and enhancing public awareness, describing it as the backbone of the democratic process. He affirmed that all efforts are being made to ensure Karachi's development and improve public services, with a promise to continue these initiatives.

Moreover, he acknowledged the media's vital role in spotlighting public issues and guiding policy-making, asserting that a well-informed media acts as a critical link between citizens and the government. The Mayor welcomed constructive criticism and suggestions from media representatives to foster the city’s progress, ensuring transparency, accountability, and performance in the services provided to residents.

Mayor Wahab reassured journalists of his full support and provided updates on various ongoing initiatives aimed at elevating Karachi to a modern and well-equipped metropolis. The event marked not just a celebration of national pride but also a reaffirmation of the collective responsibility towards Karachi's future.
