By: Aziz Khatri

KARACHI: Her Excellency Harerimana Fatu, the High Commissioner of Rwanda to Pakistan, expressed the nation's keen interest in collaborating with Pakistan across several sectors, such as education, health, culture, IT, and agriculture. Speaking at an interactive session organized by the English-Speaking Union of Pakistan (ESUP) at a local hotel, she extended an invitation to Pakistani investors, assuring them of swift assistance in setting up bank accounts and the necessary facilities available online within just 20 minutes.

The event saw participation from notable members of the ESUP, including Patron-in-Chief Aziz Memon, President Parvez Madraswala, Lifetime Secretary-General Majyid Aziz, and Senior Vice President Irfan Qureshi, who also addressed the attendees. During her address, the High Commissioner was honored with a memento and a book authored by Naseem-ul-Ghani.

Highlighting Rwanda's commitment to constructive partnerships, she revealed that multiple Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) have been signed to enhance cooperation with Pakistan. With a rich history since gaining independence in 1994, Rwanda now boasts a youthful population of 13 million, which it considers the country’s future.

Emphasizing good governance, she stated, "Rwanda has zero tolerance for corruption, and immediate action is taken whenever complaints are lodged." Furthermore, she detailed plans for two significant national programs— a grand celebration of Rwanda's National Day and the introduction of a prosperity program for the public.

The High Commissioner welcomed queries regarding potential allocated land for Pakistani investors to establish industries capable of producing goods for both local consumption and exports to East African neighbors, including Tanzania, Congo, and Mombasa.

Fatu shared that Rwanda has been guided by a military general with a vision for democratic leadership over the past two decades, with aspirations to elevate the GDP to 7.8% and emulate Singapore's development model by 2035.

Patron-in-Chief Aziz Memon noted that ESUP selects ten individuals annually to participate in international conferences, often inviting distinguished figures to lead discussions. President Parvez Madraswala conveyed his pride in hosting the Rwandan envoy and announced ongoing plans to facilitate visits for Pakistani traders to uncover prospective investment avenues in Rwanda.

Senior Vice President Irfan Qureshi expressed gratitude towards the guests, indicating that the insights shared by the High Commissioner would undoubtedly motivate Pakistani investors to consider Rwanda as a promising destination. The event was further enriched by the screening of a documentary showcasing the beauty and opportunities within Rwanda.
