Additional IG Karachi Press Conference: Significant Drop in Serious Crimes in 2025

 Karachi: The Additional IG Karachi announced a 32% decrease in serious crime incidents during the first eight months of 2025. There was a 30% reduction in murder cases, a 16% drop in street crimes, a 20% decline in robberies, and 9% decrease in vehicle thefts.

53% of drug trafficking cases were traced, leading to the arrest of 70% of suspects, alongside the seizure of drugs worth over 11 billion PKR. Out of 189 illegal arms cases, 65% were successfully resolved, and 158 suspects were apprehended.

49% of kidnapping-for-ransom cases were resolved, with 55% of hostages rescued. Police arrested 2,452 suspects during operations and rescued 62 hostages.

In police encounters, 611 suspects were arrested, 94 killed, and 626 injured. Snap checks and search operations led to the detention of 2,071 suspects.

AVL actions resulted in the arrest of 62 inter-district gangs and seizure of 23 vehicles. Over 16,000 police operations were conducted this year, resulting in the arrest of 39,048 suspects.

8,834 weapons and 6,746 consignments of drugs were recovered. 24,174 cases were registered, with a total of 66,394 police patrols and snap checkpoints established.

Crackdowns targeted 145,706 criminals, 1,213 street crime cases registered, with 5,149 arrests.

Overall, 34,152 cases were filed, and 18,125 cases were resolved. Police performance showed a 39% improvement this year.
