Celebrating World Tourism Day: A Call for Sustainable Transformation

Karachi: we celebrate World Tourism Day, inspired by the UNWTO’s principles. This year’s theme, “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation,” highlights the need for environmental stewardship, cultural preservation, and economic inclusivity in travel. Key recommendations for sustainable tourism include:

1. **Eco-friendly Travel:** Prioritize low-impact tourism to protect natural ecosystems.

2. **Community Empowerment:** Ensure local communities benefit from tourism economically and culturally.

3. **Cultural Respect:** Foster appreciation of diverse traditions to enhance global connectivity.

In Pakistan, the tourism sector is thriving, with support from major companies like Advantage Tours and Khyber International, and local associations. Tourism is pivotal to our economy, creating jobs and supporting local businesses across various industries.

As an Executive Member of the FPCCI Standing Committees on Tourism and Culture, I’m proud of our progress:

- **TTDI Ranking 2024:** Pakistan improved 20 places to 101.

- **Global Safety Index 2025:** Currently ranks 65, ahead of India.

- **Economic Integration:** Positive trends are emerging across sectors.

- **Pakistan Travel Mart 2025:** Successfully showcased tourism potential.

- **Medical Tourism:** New initiatives show promise.

I appreciate the efforts of MD Aftab ur Rehman Rana, Chairman Salman Javed, and all involved in promoting tourism. However, further investment is crucial to unlock the sector's full potential. On this occasion, I call upon our colleagues and trade authorities to support and uplift Pakistan’s cultural identity. Together, we can enhance our economy and showcase the beauty of our homeland.
