MQM-P’s Aamir Siddiqui Files Writ Petition in Sindh High Court Against NEPRA’s Unpopular Decision

By: Aziz Khatri

Karachi: MQM Pakistan’s pro-public MPA Muhammad Aamir Siddiqui has filed a writ petition in the Sindh High Court challenging the unpopular decision made by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA). In a statement to journalists, Siddiqui condemned NEPRA’s SRO No. 1287 (I)/2025, issued on July 18, 2025, which allows K-Electric to recover past losses, including costs related to line losses and electricity theft, from loyal and timely-paying consumers.

Siddiqui argued that NEPRA unfairly shifts the burden of K-Electric’s failures and inefficiencies onto honest consumers, significantly affecting residential, commercial, and industrial users in Karachi. He emphasized that this decision poses a risk to the city’s economy and increases the financial strain on businesses. Siddiqui described the move as a form of collective punishment and a gross injustice.

Additionally, he asserted that NEPRA has overstepped its legal mandate, thereby eroding public trust. MQM Pakistan has pledged to continue its legal fight vigorously to protect the rights of the people of Karachi.
