Karachi: Under the Pink Ribbon campaign, BHY Hospital organized a breast cancer awareness seminar for women, attended by consultants from BHY and other hospitals. Uniquely, the entire organizing team consisted of women, attracting participants from nearby and distant areas.
Key specialists included Consultant Gynecologists Dr. Zah Gul, Dr. Mala Shahani, Dr. Samina Qazi; Consultant General Surgeons Dr. Tanza Irfan, Dr. Kainat Zafar; Pediatrician Dr. Sudaf Zahra; Sonologist Dr. Najma Memon; and Family Physician Dr. Fauzia Masood.
Experts highlighted that breast cancer is the most common disease among women worldwide, with a higher incidence in Pakistan compared to neighboring countries like India. It mostly affects women aged 40-50, but 7% of cases occur in women aged 20-30.
They explained the four stages of breast cancer and urged women to get mammograms every two years for early detection. Self-examination post-menopause and consulting a doctor on any unusual changes were stressed.
The experts encouraged women to stay positive and assured that breast cancer is treatable. BHY Hospital also provided free mammograms, discounted ultrasounds, and free expert check-ups, which were highly appreciated by attendees
