Karachi: Mayor of Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, proudly represented the city at the Asia Pacific Cities Summit (APCS) held in Dubai, underscoring Karachi's potential as a global leader in sustainable development and modern urbanization. Addressing an audience of city leaders, policymakers, and development experts from around the world, Mayor Wahab described Karachi as the "heart of Pakistan," characterized by its economic vibrancy, cultural diversity, and human resilience.

The Mayor articulated the ambitions of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and the Government of Sindh, highlighting their commitment to position Karachi among the world's foremost cities through enhanced urban facilities, eco-friendly transportation, and balanced urban planning.

"It is a matter of great pride for us to be recognized on an international platform like the APCS," he stated, emphasizing the significance of this summit as a milestone in Karachi's path toward sustainable growth and development. According to the Mayor, being acknowledged among major Asian cities is a monumental achievement that signals Karachi's progressive trajectory.

During his address, Mayor Wahab elaborated on ongoing development projects in the city, stating they extend beyond mere infrastructure. "These initiatives represent a journey of restoring human dignity, equality, and justice," he said, highlighting the completion of 2.1 million climate-resilient homes that not only tackle environmental challenges but also provide citizens with safe and modern housing options.

"This initiative promotes dignity and social stability," he added, pointing out the empowerment of women through home ownership, which fosters self-reliance and confidence within communities.

Mayor Wahab emphasized that each new home symbolizes resilience against climate change and a commitment to humanity. He articulated a vision where the city’s resources are dedicated to the welfare of its citizens, propelling Karachi toward becoming a greener, more organized metropolis.

Making Karachi a hub for global trade and investment remains a key priority for the Mayor. He noted that the KMC is swiftly implementing projects leveraging modern technology and practices in digital governance, clean energy, and public transport to revitalize the urban landscape.
Concluding his remarks, Mayor Wahab reaffirmed his commitment to work alongside citizens to shape a future where every resident can experience progress and convenience. With a vision of making Karachi a beacon of hope, innovation, and sustainable growth, the Mayor envisions the city shining on the global stage once more.

"We have shown the world," Mayor Wahab proclaimed, "that even in times of scarcity, we have rebuilt hope and life. Today, we are not merely reconstructing infrastructure; we are laying the foundation for a society rooted in justice, equality, and dignity."
