KMC to Establish Electric Charging Stations Across Karachi

By: Aziz Khatri

Karachi: In a significant step towards promoting environmentally friendly transportation, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has announced plans to set up electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across the city. This initiative aims to provide modern facilities for citizens while supporting sustainable urban mobility.

A high-level meeting chaired by Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, was held at the KMC Head Office to discuss measures for introducing eco-friendly solutions. During the meeting, the Mayor emphasized the urgency of establishing electric charging stations in key city areas, aiming to reduce carbon emissions and encourage the adoption of electric vehicles.

The first phase of this initiative will see the installation of EV charging stations along major arteries, including Shahrah-e-Faisal, Dr. Ziauddin Ahmed Road, and Stadium Road.

Mayor Murtaza Wahab highlighted that this project goes beyond merely building charging infrastructure; it also focuses on providing citizens with the opportunity to transition from traditional fuel-based vehicles to cleaner alternatives. He assured that KMC will allocate land for these stations and utilize its own resources to ensure prompt implementation.

“This step aligns with Karachi’s vision for a greener, smarter, and more sustainable future," the Mayor stated.
The meeting also included discussions with key officials, such as Financial Advisor KMC Gulzar Abro, Director Media KMC Daniyal Alishan, and Deputy Director Planning Musheer Mahar, who collectively support this forward-thinking initiative.

Karachi residents can look forward to a future where eco-friendly transportation becomes a more accessible and viable option, contributing to a healthier urban environment.
