Karachi: In a bid to improve traffic management and safety, the Sindh Police Department hosted an awareness seminar on ‘Traffic Rules and Faceless E-Ticketing Challan.’ The event, attended by various stakeholders including police officials, government officers, and showbiz personalities, was highlighted by Sindh IGP Ghulam Nabi Memon and Additional IG Karachi Javed Alam Odho.
The new “faceless e-ticketing challan” system aims to reduce accidents and enhance public perception of law enforcement by utilizing technology to determine fault in traffic violations. Odho emphasized that this system will eliminate police misconduct and promote teamwork with relevant government departments to foster better adherence to traffic rules.
Memon noted that with the introduction of modern facilities, the licensing system will also shift online, improving accessibility for citizens. He stressed the importance of high fines for driving without a license to curb illegal driving practices, with penalties set at up to 50,000 PKR for heavy vehicles.
Both officials acknowledged the necessity of public education on traffic safety and the use of helmets, underlining that while some areas may lack camera coverage, the initiative will begin promptly. The complaint mechanism for this new system will ensure transparency and fairness, as citizens will have a direct channel to voice concerns through a dedicated panel.
