KARACHI: Farooq Ahmed, President of the Karachi Bus Owners Association, has filed a petition in the Sindh High Court through Advocate Munsif Khan, challenging the imposition of hefty fines and various restrictions, particularly those related to vehicle age limits.
In response to the petition, an emergency meeting of the Karachi Transport Ittehad was convened under the chairmanship of Haji Muhammad Tawab Khan. The meeting was attended by Senior Vice President Abdul Rehman, President Farooq Ahmed, General Secretary Muhammad Ilyas, Faqeer Muhammad, Khayal Muhammad, and other officials.
The meeting further emphasized that instead of focusing solely on the age of vehicles, authorities should assess their technical condition. All drivers have been given instructions to properly maintain their vehicles and ensure that all necessary documents are in order.
During the meeting, participants expressed deep concerns regarding the heavy fines, labeling them as unbearable and akin to the economic ruin of transporters. They cautioned that if the situation persists, public transport services in the city could come to a complete halt.
