Pencak Silat: A Cultural Bridge Between Indonesia and Pakistan

Karachi: In a significant push for cultural exchange and sporting cooperation, Indonesian Consul General Madzdekar M.A. recently lauded Pencak Silat as more than just a martial art. He described it as a tradition that symbolizes friendship, mutual respect, and cultural harmony. The Consul General highlighted the growing interest in this ancient art form in Pakistan, suggesting that it could enhance the relationship between the two nations.


During a historic exhibition event held at the Junejo Exhibition Hall as part of the National Games 2025, he remarked, "Pakistan’s engagement in Pencak Silat signifies a promising future for our ties. By bringing our youth together through sports, we can pave the way for a deeper cultural connection."


Upon his arrival, the Consul General received a warm welcome from Rana Ali Raza, Director of Operations at the Pakistan Pencak Silat Federation, and M. Nasir Junejo, Secretary General of the Sindh Pencak Silat Association. To honor his visit, the Consul General was presented with a traditional Sindhi Ajrak and a souvenir shield, which he praised as reflective of Pakistan’s rich culture and renowned hospitality.

The exhibition featured athletes demonstrating impressive technical skills and cultural performances, earning accolades from spectators and officials alike. According to the Pakistan Pencak Silat Federation, the event's objective was to solidify the foundation of Pencak Silat in Pakistan and promote its future inclusion as a medal event in the National Games.

As Indonesia remains committed to supporting Pakistan in the development and promotion of Pencak Silat, this collaboration promises to foster not only athletic prowess but also deepen the cultural ties between the two nations.
