Karachi: The Sindh Government has announced comprehensive and foolproof security arrangements for the Christian community across the province on the occasion of Christmas. This was stated by Spokesperson for the Government of Sindh and Member of the Sindh Human Rights Commission, Sukhdev Hemnani.
According to a formal letter written by Sukhdev Hemnani to the Inspector General of Sindh Police, directives have been issued to all concerned authorities to ensure enhanced, preventive security measures and effective traffic management at churches, places of worship, and communal gathering points of the Christian community throughout Sindh.
The letter emphasized the need for heightened vigilance, coordinated security planning, and proactive policing. It also highlighted the constitutional guarantees enshrined in Article 9 (right to life and liberty), Article 20 (freedom of religion), Article 25 (equality before law), and Article 36 (protection of minorities), underscoring the state’s responsibility to protect religious minorities.
Following these instructions, all Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) have been directed to formulate and implement comprehensive security and traffic management plans to ensure the safety of worshippers during Christmas celebrations.
Hemnani stressed that the protection of religious minorities and their places of worship is not only a constitutional obligation but also a core priority of the Sindh Government. He reiterated that safeguarding minority rights remains central to the province’s governance framework.
He further stated that under the inclusive and progressive leadership of Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the Sindh Government continues to take proactive and institutional measures to promote interfaith harmony and ensure equal protection for all citizens.
Assuring the Christian community, Hemnani affirmed that the Sindh Government will remain fully vigilant throughout the Christmas period, and all relevant departments have been directed to ensure a safe, peaceful, and secure environment across the province.
