Karachi: Pakistan marked a significant milestone in its sporting history as international-standard Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) trials were held in Karachi for the first time under the banner of Comic Con Pakistan 2026. The landmark event, titled “Trials of Combat Sports,” featured high-level competitions in MMA, kickboxing and boxing, drawing widespread attention from sports circles across the country.

Organized under the auspices of the Sindh Youth Club, the trials witnessed enthusiastic participation from young and talented fighters representing various regions of Pakistan. Bouts were conducted in multiple weight categories under the supervision of professional and certified referees, ensuring transparency and adherence to international standards. The day-long event delivered thrilling contests and high-energy performances, providing spectators with a rare display of elite combat sports action.

Addressing the media, Comic Con Pakistan President Syed Aamir Sajjad said the initiative aims to channel youth towards positive, healthy and constructive pursuits. He emphasized that Pakistan is rich in sporting talent, but the critical need lies in providing young athletes with proper platforms, structured training and exposure to international opportunities.

Syed Aamir Sajjad revealed that around 150 players took part in the official trials, from which 50 top athletes were selected through a fair, transparent and merit-based process. These selected fighters will represent Pakistan at the grand Comic Con Pakistan 2026, scheduled to be held on Saturday, January 31, at the Karachi Expo Centre, where historic bouts are expected to take place.

He further stated that the event was organized with the cooperation of the Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Government of Sindh, reflecting a strong partnership between the public and private sectors to secure a positive and promising future for the youth. He reaffirmed Comic Con Pakistan’s commitment to continuing such initiatives to promote discipline, self-confidence and international-level competitiveness among young athletes through sports.

Sports officials, coaches and participants hailed the trials as a historic step for combat sports in Pakistan. They expressed optimism that similar international-standard events will be organized in the future, offering growth opportunities to emerging athletes and helping project a positive image of Pakistan on the global sporting stage.
