Karachi: The stage drama “Tension” was presented on the 20th day of the ongoing Awami Theatre Festival 2026 at the Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi, drawing a large and enthusiastic audience that applauded the performers for their compelling acting and engaging presentation.
Written and directed by Asif Sharmeela, the play featured a talented cast including Afsar Yar Khan, Bobi Kamal, Ali Khan, Imran Fida, Muhammad Altamash, Muskan, Naeem Kamal, and Sawera Shah. Each actor delivered convincing performances, bringing depth and realism to their characters.
The story unfolds within a lively neighborhood setting that includes a call center, a grocery store, and a traditional herbal clinic. At its center is a young man with a deep passion for acting who struggles with unemployment. While searching for job opportunities through newspaper advertisements, he eventually secures a position at a communication company operating a call center.
The young man possesses an unusual skill — the ability to convincingly speak in a female voice — which becomes a key part of his role at the workplace. However, he soon discovers that his voice is being used in illegal activities, including blackmail. Disturbed by the situation, he attempts to resign, but the call center management threatens him with severe consequences and possible imprisonment.
As the drama reaches its climax, law enforcement agencies intervene and arrest those involved in the criminal operation. The play concludes with a strong message emphasizing the responsible and ethical use of social media and digital platforms.
The audience responded warmly to the thought-provoking storyline and impactful performances, praising the production for blending entertainment with a socially relevant message. The presentation added another memorable highlight to the ongoing Awami Theatre Festival 2026 at the Arts Council Karachi.
