Emotional Stage Play “Jahil” Concludes Theatre Festival

By: Aziz Khatri

KARACHI: The Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi’s Awami Theatre Festival 2026 concluded with a powerful and emotionally charged stage play titled “Jahil”, which received wide acclaim for its heartfelt storytelling and poignant social message.

Written by Aamir Rambo and directed by Rafi Sheikh, “Jahil” explored themes of parental sacrifice, emotional neglect, and moral decline within families, resonating deeply with audiences on the festival’s final day.

The story follows a humble, hardworking couple who dedicate their lives to educating their only son, taking on debt and hardship to secure his future. Despite their sacrifices, the emotional distance between parent and child widens over time. After achieving educational and social success and marrying into a wealthy overseas family the son’s attitude toward his parents turns cold and dismissive. In a devastating exchange, he questions their sacrifices and ultimately abandons them, leaving the aging couple heartbroken and neglected.

Symbolic and deeply human, the play’s title “Jahil” (Ignorant) reflects not a lack of intellect but a loss of wisdom and empathy. It serves as a cautionary reflection on love without balance a reminder that devotion, when blind, can lead to self-erasure and pain.

Blending realismraw emotion, and social criticism, the production captivated audiences at the Arts Council Auditorium, earning prolonged applause and praise from both theatre enthusiasts and cultural critics.

By closing the 26-day Awami Theatre Festival with an introspective narrative, “Jahil” invited viewers to reflect on the quieter tragedies of family life and on the need for understanding, gratitude, and wisdom in love.
