Karachi: Javed Alam Odho, Inspector General of Sindh Police, chaired a high-level meeting to review the overall law-and-order and security situation in Karachi, focusing on preparedness in light of evolving regional developments and potential security threats.
The meeting was attended by Additional IGs of Karachi, CTD and Special Branch, DIG Headquarters, SPU officials, all Zonal DIGs, District SSPs and AIGs. Participants reviewed intelligence reports linked to the extraordinary law-and-order situation across the border and discussed a comprehensive strategy to address emerging concerns.
Security assessments of sensitive government and private installations, as well as other key locations, were examined in detail. Officials said comprehensive standard operating procedures (SOPs) have been formulated and will be implemented down to the police station level based on intelligence inputs.
The Additional IG CTD emphasized the need to strengthen security at provincial entry and exit routes in view of potential terrorism threats. The IG directed that Quick Response Force personnel remain on high alert across all districts and that checking systems at city entry and exit points be further tightened.
He also ordered timely sharing of intelligence with CTD and Special Branch, mandatory inspections of sensitive installations by senior officers, and regular monitoring of security arrangements through field visits. General hold-ups and snap checking were ordered twice daily across the city.
The IG further instructed police to continue intensified operations against professional beggary networks and ensure strict vigilance to maintain public safety and law-and-order stability.
