KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab inaugurated a Flower Show and Qawwali Evening at Karachi Zoo on Thursday and expressed complete solidarity with the people of Kashmir on Kashmir Solidarity Day. He said that Pakistan stands shoulder to shoulder with its Kashmiri brothers and sisters and salutes their ongoing struggle for freedom.

Addressing the gathering, the mayor urged the international community to take notice of alleged human rights violations in Kashmir and stated that the sacrifices of the Kashmiri people would not go in vain. He also emphasized that practical measures are being taken to transform Karachi Zoo into a more beautiful, recreational, and citizen-friendly facility.

“The purpose of organizing the Flower Show is to raise awareness about the importance of plants, trees, and environmental protection, while cultural activities such as Qawwali help revive Karachi’s traditional vibrancy,” he said.

The event was attended by City Council Parliamentary Leader Karamullah Waqasi, Deputy Parliamentary Leader Dil Muhammad, Jaman Darwan, along with a large number of citizens, representatives of civil society, party workers, and members of the media.

Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Wahab said that public participation in city events has significantly increased. “Previously, such gatherings were attended by a few dozen people, but today thousands are participating. This reflects the deep love Karachiites have for their city,” he said, adding that people take pride in calling themselves Karachiites.

He further stated that the Pakistan Peoples Party would continue its journey of development and improvement, and that all allied parties are united under the leadership of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to implement the party manifesto.

The mayor appealed to citizens to organize their events at Karachi Zoo, noting that the income generated would be utilized for the welfare and care of animals. Alongside the Flower Show, the Qawwali evening entertained the audience, creating a lively and festive atmosphere at the zoo.

Participants appreciated the initiative and called for the continuation of such cultural and recreational programs in the city.
