Iftar Gathering in Karachi Brings Together Diplomats, Officials and Business Leaders

 Karachi: Foreign diplomats from several countries attended a grand Iftar dinner hosted by businessman Abdul Basit Mundia of the M.I. Mundia Group at his residence in Clifton.

Diplomatic representatives from Germany, United Kingdom, Oman, South Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, and Türkiye, along with managers of Turkish Airlines and the Inspector General of Sindh Police attended the gathering. The event was considered one of the first large diplomatic gatherings in the city following rising tensions related to the reported conflict involving the United States, Iran, and Israel.

During the evening, participants also discussed local political developments, including the resignation of former Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori and the appointment of the new governor Muhammad Nihal Hashmi from the Pakistan Muslim League (N).

The gathering was attended by politicians from the Pakistan Peoples Party, Pakistan Muslim League (N) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, as well as senior government and police officials, industrialists, businessmen, honorary consuls general, and members of Karachi’s business and social community. Several old friends and associates of former governor Kamran Khan Tessori were also present.

Speaking on the occasion, Thomas Peter Harry Burge, Deputy Head of Mission at the British Deputy High Commission Karachi, said that it was his first time attending a Ramadan gathering in Karachi since arriving in Pakistan a few months earlier for his new diplomatic assignment. He praised the hospitality of the city, saying that the people of Karachi are friendly and welcoming.

He described the evening as a memorable Ramadan gathering and thanked the hosts for their warm invitation and excellent arrangements.

Host Abdul Basit Mundia, along with Junaid Mundia, Director of M.I. Mundia Group, personally welcomed the guests and ensured their comfort throughout the event. At the end of the evening, souvenirs, gifts, and flower bouquets were presented to diplomats and foreign guests as a gesture of appreciation.
