Literary Community Pays Tribute to Syed Mazhar Jameel in Karachi

  Karachi: Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi organized a condolence reference in memory of renowned Pakistani writer Syed Mazhar Jameel at Haseena Moin Hall, where a large number of literary, social, and intellectual personalities gathered to pay tribute to his life and work.


The event commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by speakers sharing their memories and reflections on the late writer’s personality and contributions.

Among those in attendance were President Arts Council Mohammad Ahmed Shah, renowned poet Iftikhar Arif, former Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed, Justice (R) Maqbool Baqar, and several other distinguished personalities.

Speaking on the occasion, Gulzar Ahmed recalled his professional association with Mazhar Jameel, describing him as a hardworking, compassionate, and capable individual with strong legal acumen. He also mentioned receiving a Sindhi book from him in 2010, reflecting his scholarly depth.

President Arts Council Mohammad Ahmed Shah highlighted Mazhar Jameel’s long-standing association with the institution, noting his active role since the early Aalmi Urdu Conferences in enhancing its literary and intellectual stature. He described him as a patient and positive individual with a remarkable ability to resolve issues amicably.

Renowned poet Iftikhar Arif stated that Mazhar Jameel carried out meaningful and impactful literary work, inspired by the Progressive Movement. He emphasized that the late writer demonstrated excellence in both Urdu and Sindhi languages, leaving behind a rich literary legacy.

Prominent intellectuals including Professor Sahar Ansari, Jaffer Ahmed, Naazir Mahmood, Fatima Hasan, Mubeen Mirza, and others also spoke at the event, highlighting various aspects of Mazhar Jameel’s personality, scholarly contributions, and dedication to knowledge and research.

Speakers noted that his writings reflected a deep connection with Sindh’s culture, history, and language, and emphasized the need for future generations to remain connected with such literary heritage.

Family members of the late writer also shared their thoughts. Ibad-ul-Haq and Samad-ul-Haq expressed gratitude to the attendees and remembered their father as a loving and guiding figure who valued knowledge, patience, and compassion.

The condolence reference concluded with prayers for the departed soul, while participants acknowledged Syed Mazhar Jameel’s enduring contributions to literature, scholarship, and intellectual thought.
