KARACHI: In a unique and dignified approach to community welfare, the Khudi Foundation, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Karachi Silver Sands (RID-3271), organized an innovative “Eid Bazaar 2026” for underprivileged families in Orangi Town, enabling children to experience Eid shopping with dignity rather than receiving traditional handouts.
Under this pilot project, 100 children from financially challenged backgrounds were invited to participate in a subsidized shopping experience. Each child contributed a symbolic amount of Rs. 100, and in return received access to a shopping package worth approximately Rs. 2,500, allowing them to choose their own Eid clothes and footwear.
The event created an atmosphere of excitement and joy, as children actively selected outfits, shoes, and accessories. Organizers noted that the experience of making personal choices significantly enhanced the children’s sense of confidence and happiness.
The initiative also focused on supporting the local economy by engaging neighborhood tailors and footwear vendors, ensuring that the economic benefits of the event remained within the community.
Speaking on the occasion, Sarwat N Shah, Founder of Khudi Foundation, said the project aimed to shift from conventional charity to a more empowering model. She emphasized that the small contribution from families was symbolic, intended to preserve dignity and give parents a sense of pride in providing for their children.
She further remarked that the overwhelming response and visible happiness of the children highlighted the importance of adopting welfare models that promote self-reliance and respect.
Sarwat N Shah, who also serves as President of the Rotary Club of Karachi Silver Sands, added that the initiative aligns with Rotary’s vision of creating sustainable and meaningful change by empowering communities.
The successful execution of this pilot project presents a replicable model for other organizations seeking to design impactful and dignified welfare programs, particularly during festive occasions like Eid.
