Arts Council Celebrates Contributions of Overseas Urdu Poet

Karachi: The Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, in collaboration with Sakinan-e-Shehr-e-Quaid, organized a special ceremony in honor of community leader and renowned poet Dr Noor Amrohvi at the Haseena Moin Hall.


President Arts Council Muhammad Ahmed Shah attended as the chief guest, while Khalid Irfan presided over the ceremony. Other prominent speakers included Mahmood Ahmed Khan, Rizwan Siddiqui, Junaid Iqbal, Dr Ambareen Haseeb Amber, Tariq Sabzwari, and Dr Auj-e-Kamal. The event was moderated by Farhana Owais.

During the ceremony, Muhammad Ahmed Shah presented a commemorative shield to Dr Noor Amrohvi in recognition of his outstanding services to literature. In his address, he remarked that the land of Amroha has a unique cultural richness, producing talent in diverse fields including philosophy, painting, poetry, and criticism. He described literary communities as being bound by knowledge and awareness, and praised Dr Noor Amrohvi as a multidimensional personality who maintains a balance between spiritual and worldly life.

In his presidential address, Khalid Irfan highlighted that Dr Noor Amrohvi has earned widespread respect through his contributions and has consistently worked to promote love and harmony. He noted that organizing mushairas among Hindu and Pakistani communities in the United States reflects a remarkable example of intercultural unity. He further shared that Dr Noor Amrohvi regularly hosts two major annual events—an international mushaira and a naat gathering—and has been organizing the naat event continuously for the past 23 years.

Dr Ambareen Haseeb Amber described him as a humble and gracious individual, emphasizing that his poetry reflects the emotional experiences of migration, often centered around themes such as a mother’s love. Mahmood Ahmed Khan expressed deep appreciation for overseas contributors to Urdu literature, praising Dr Noor Amrohvi’s services in poetry and naat.

Other speakers also paid tribute to his personality and work. Rizwan Siddiqui termed him a complete personality, while Junaid Iqbal noted that he spreads knowledge and enlightenment globally. Tariq Sabzwari recalled witnessing his successful performances at mushairas in India, appreciating his distinctive poetic style. Dr Auj-e-Kamal added that Dr Noor Amrohvi is actively promoting Urdu literature and poetry in the United States.

In his remarks, Dr Noor Amrohvi expressed gratitude to the organizers and participants. He stated that he believes in love and has always tried to share it with others. Concluding his speech, he said, “We are ambassadors of love, and that is our true identity and greatest asset, which we strive to spread across the world.”
