Karachi: The birth anniversary of the first female Prime Minister of the Islamic world and Chairperson of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP), Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, will be observed with reverence and respect on June 21. Born in Karachi on June 21, 1953, Benazir Bhutto holds a unique and distinguished place in both national and international politics, following in the footsteps of her father, the founding chairman of the PPP, Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
Benazir Bhutto formally entered politics in 1977 following the arrest of her father, the former Prime Minister. Alongside her mother, Begum Nusrat Bhutto, she bravely resisted the dictatorship, facing house arrest and state repression with unwavering determination.
On December 27, 2007, following a public rally at Liaquat Bagh in Rawalpindi, Benazir Bhutto was tragically martyred in a deadly attack. Her loss was not only a blow to Pakistan but also to the global political community. Despite her physical absence, she remains alive in the hearts of millions and continues to reign in the memories and aspirations of the people.
In his tribute on the occasion of her birth anniversary, Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) and Parliamentary Secretary for Transport and Excise, Dr. Sham Sundar Advani, described Shaheed Benazir Bhutto as a shining example of hope, bravery, and resilience. He emphasized that she embodied leadership, vision, values, and progress.
Dr. Advani remarked that June 21 is a day of great significance for the nation in general and the Pakistan People's Party in particular. He stated that the name of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto will forever remain radiant in the annals of Pakistan’s political history.
He also noted that the PPP’s Patron-in-Chief, President Asif Ali Zardari; Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari; Faryal Talpur; and Asefa Bhutto are all actively striving to realize the vision and mission of their great leader. “Today, the entire nation pays homage to Shaheed Benazir Bhutto. Living nations never forget their leaders, and Benazir Bhutto will remain immortal in both national and international political history,” he concluded
