By: Aziz Khatri

Karachi: In a powerful call to action, Blessing Institute of Education and Personality Development organized an awareness program titled “Stop Violence Against Women” at the Pakistan American Cultural Center. The event was attended by prominent figures from socio-political circles, women leaders, lawyers, journalists and civil society representatives, who are united in their commitment to address this vast issue.

Addressing the gathering, Institute Founder Pooja Amit Kumar stressed that Pakistan has strong legislation in place to protect women but real progress depends on its impartial and effective implementation. “Violence against women remains a serious social challenge; laws alone are insufficient without non-discriminatory enforcement,” she asserted. Kumar stressed that women’s empowerment is essential for social progress, urging the state, institutions and communities to collaborate in promoting a safe environment.

Speakers highlighted the gap between existing protections and their real-world application, citing slow implementation as a reason for the increasing incidents of violence. They called for accountability at all levels, prompt justice for perpetrators and immediate support for victims. Women leaders stressed the urgent need for legal literacy programmes to empower women so that they can confidently assert their rights.

Legal experts and social activists appreciated the important role of educational institutions, media and civil society in the campaign against violence. “Awareness is the first step towards breaking patriarchal barriers,” noted a lawyer, advocating for sustained advocacy to bridge the implementation gap.

At the end of the programme, participants reiterated their collective commitment to eradicate gender-based violence and promote social awareness. They see such initiatives not only as important for enlightenment but also as catalysts for meaningful social reform, paving the way for a more equitable future.
